Yesterday we went to avifauna with the kids. Some nice portraits of birds made and the kids were very excited to feed the australian lorries
Friday I took a day off from work and went to the oostvaardersplassen. This is a protected nature reserve where I wanted to go to for a long time already.
It’s a quite unique area, herds of wild horses, deer and cattle and too many bird species to mention.
I was lucky enough to see: the horses, deer and cattle, the white-tailed sea eagle (zeearend !!), silver heron (zilverreiger), rough-legged buzzard (ruigpootbuizerd), great grey shrike (klapekster) and much more! Certainly an area to visit more often
For more information on this area see : Staatsbosbeheer
Some photos of the wildlife below.
Today it there were special event by most Dutch nature organisation to protest against the insane budget cuts planned by our new government.
I went with Kiana and Tjorn to the Nieuwkoopse Plassen at the new wooden lookout tower build by Natuurmonumenten. Rangers of the area kindly welcomed everyone with hot chocolate and a friendly chat.
To our minister president: Please DO NOT destroy decades of hard work trying to recover nature, its insane .. if you had kids I am sure you would not destroy their chance for a green and healthy enviroment to live in !
A big thanks to all rangers, people from the nature organisations and all their volunteers for a great day of action: more then 40.000 people visited the 150+ nature reserves to show their support.
Please check http://www.hartvoornatuur.nu/ for following actions and info.
Friday/Saturday night I went out for a night of fishing with Ad (my brother in law) and another friend of him.
Allthought we didnt catch much it was a perfect evening/night/morning to spend outsite and cook, drink and make photos.
It was great to sleep outside under just my tarp again, thats been a while since I did that, and Ad his cooking skills on the woodfire created a great late-night dinner!
I did no geotagging on the photos to keep his fishingspot (only reachable by boat) a bit hidden, a few of the photos are in the album below.
Two of them I like very much and you see the usual frame around it.
Thanks Ad and Maurits for a very enjoyable outdoor moment.
Ok im in the car now on the A12 highway at exit nieuwerbrug. Some huge thunderstorm took down trees as thick as a mans head. Its a total chaos and 500m in front of me the firemen seem to be sawing people out of cars being smashed by trees. No clue how long this will take but im happy my car only got hit by small branches.

Ok im home again. After being stuck about 90 minutes the road was cleared again and I could continue. Looking back I have been pretty lucky and with me many people there !
It rained so much you couldnt see anything. I heard things banging against my car .. when the rain was gone everything was changed, parts of trees (upto a men head thick) were everywhere, trough car windshields even.
That was a pretty scary moment, was happy I had a sturdy car there and no BIG parts of trees hit me.
One nice thing is that after the storm many guys got out of their cars afterwards and started trowing trees over the siderails. Excelent teamwork between total strangers. Some part of the trees were so big it took several men to lift it !
Some phone photos/videos below to give you and idea .. but im happy to be home again ! Gonna check my car tomorrow in daylight to see if/how many scratches and dents I got
